WASHINGTON — Marine Corps Maj. Kyle King won the 51st Marine Corps Marathon on Sunday, his third straight title and fourth overall. Kaylee Slade of Arvada, Colo., won the women’s race, Stars and Stripes reported.

King finished the course from Arlington through Washington and back to the Marine Corps War Memorial in Rosslyn in 2 hours, 17 minutes and 31 seconds. Slade finished in 2:44:34, according to Runner’s World and WJLA, which cited preliminary results from the event’s timing provider. The race organizer says on its results page that all results remain unofficial until they are verified. Its deadline for results inquiries is Nov. 8.

King, 36, of Montclair, Va., also won in 2022, 2024 and 2025, according to Stars and Stripes. He finished 4 minutes and 39 seconds ahead of the runner-up, WJLA reported.

“I’d say it gets harder each time,” King told NBC4 Washington after the race. “The pressure’s always there. I mean, this year was especially intimidating.”

Slade, 29, told NBC4 she was inspired by the veterans and service members along the course. “They do way harder things than me out there,” she said. She also said she might return next year.

What changed this year

For the first time, runners were assigned to start corrals by expected finish time instead of choosing their own spot. The finish line was also closed to spectators, Stars and Stripes reported. The day started chilly and turned sunny, with afternoon temperatures in the mid-60s, NBC4 said.

In the District, the Metropolitan Police Department closed Key Bridge, Memorial Bridge, Rock Creek Parkway, the 14th Street Bridge HOV lanes and streets around the Mall and Georgetown. The closures ran from about 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Arlington’s closures were detailed in The Inquisitor’s preview.

The Marine Corps Marathon Organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment on finisher totals or when results will become official.
